I happen to read this article and what a true things Bed rest in Orthopedic Practice usually rusts people . Basically Rest is a concept we must try to divorce One must not jus rest keep active , remember what Lord Krsna Says in Gita, One must not rest on ones laurels . Ofcourse there is a catch. One should not be restless that is passion . one must work in goodness.
""Orthopedic Surgeons and for that matterall physicians approach to disease is essentially one of fire-fighting in theform of symptom alleviation with a prescription, followed by repair orreconstruction (surgical methods). We need a paradigm shift from this approachto prevention and healing. Fractures and injuries are treated by plasters andsurgeries along with painkillers, but the accompanying bed rest results inmajor muscle wasting and changes. It is often said bed rest as bed rust.Even while resting parts of the body, which are, injured it is possible to mobilize the muscles and joints around it to promote better physiologicalhealing.""

I was recently on a trip to Japan . The place and people amazed me for the simple reason that japan was turned into a rubble in the aftermath of second world war and now see it is the second largest economy in world and people blindly go for japanese products. an introspection and the natural comparison with other countries especially india makes us realise that they progressed because of their honesty , sincereity , punctuality and hardwork . i wish we can imbibe some of the japanese trait and see if we can turn a bihar into a japan rather than trying to look for a bihar or orissa in japan.

It is strange that a debate like this comes up at this stage . Of course it should have been taught by planners about few decades back . infact medicine and engineering had been placed at loggerheads instead of complimenting eacxh other .If doctors can learn the corporate intellect and the engineers learn the human touch in their deliberations things would turn out tro be much better . I guess planners would do a great deal of favour by trying to device new methods to streamline education in India as a whole and medicine and engineering are just subjects in the entire cogwhel of learning .

Title: E Learning in Medicine --- Scope and Shortcomings"
Prof (Dr.) Gourishankar Patnaik Dept of Orthopedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation and E learning Manipal University Malaysia
Abstract: E-learning adds many dimensions to the educational process and if utilized well, has the potential to enhance both the students and instructors educational experience. One benefit of e-learning allows students to access the lectures and other material when they are most attentive. In addition, students have the ability to review the material to the degree they feel necessary. The development of sophisticated, web-based learning platforms that are easy to use from a student and a teacher prospective, medical education is beginning to embrace a new modality of knowledge transfer. web-based Moodle e-learning platform is the e learning module we use in the Melaka Manipal Medical College in Malaysia. Different departments put their inputs in various formats . The students who are usually hard pressed for time as (Medical Education is vast) use the moodle to interact with teachers , and other gropus. Implementation of e-learning methods in medical education is needed to provide students with new ways of gaining knowledge. However certain steps must be taken to choose the solution, which is the best for the given learning area. To keep up to date with the latest scientific breakthroughs, current medical debates and state-of-the-art medical technology you don’t need to go on expensive further training seminars far away from your workplace. The only thing you need is a computer with online access – and the right links to e-learning (electronic learning) websites. An overview of various e learning strategies at manipal university Malaysia are discussed.
